Robotic Hat

Company: Summer Internship, Harman International (2014)
My Role: Research, Design, Fabrication

The Robotic Hat is a conceptual head-mounted device automatically adjusting its visor responding to the ambient light. When it detects bright sunlight, it lowers a visor for a wearer to protect skin and vision from sun. When the surrounding is dark, it lifts up the visor to help the wearer get more clear view. The project explores a robotic garmet sensing the environment and shifting its shape, imagining the near future that the boundary between garment and device is blurred by technology.

Testing the light sensors on the prototype
When the wearer is standing under the shade the visor is lfited up. When she walks toward the sunlight the visor is lowered.
